Operation Dolphin ByCatch Concludes: See You Next Year!
Giovedì, 18 Apr, 2019
After two months at sea, our dolphin defense campaign on France’s Atlantic Coast is coming to an end, at least for this season. Commentary by the Operation ByCatch campaign director Lamya Essemlali, President of Sea Shepherd France.
Dozens of nightly and daily patrols in the cold winter weather of the Atlantic Ocean allowed us to capture images that were difficult to obtain. These images have now travelled around the world thanks to our teams, who have been tireless and determined under particularly difficult conditions. Their tenacity and self-sacrifice have enabled us to expose what is happening in the Bay of Biscay to the eyes of the world, which until recently remained a secret to most people. No one has ever made such an effort before; these volunteers are what make Sea Shepherd so unique.
I’d also like to thank all of you who supported us by making the donations that allowed us to finance this important operation. We would not have been able to do it without you, either.
We will return each winter until satisfactory solutions have been put in place by the French government to save the dolphin population of the Bay of Biscay. The current plans announced by the Minister of Ecology, François de Rugy, lead us to believe that this fight has only just begun.
Beyond dolphins, the whole marine ecosystem is being damaged by our fishing methods. Dolphins are the whistleblowers of the ocean. Let's listen to them! And let's save them.
